Its Time To Heat Things Up

After over a year of speculation as to the release date of JFK’s (Jesse Keeler of MSTRKRFT) debut single, “Baby Techno” there is still no date in sight. However several months ago I came across a spot on remix by LA/SF’s own Verdis, which I have kept from everyone with respect to both parties. Now after all this time I have to share at least a little portion, so here is a teaser clip of the remix. Enjoy, I’m loving the heavy breakdown.

I feel like I am not the only one who is beginning to get impatient about the forthcoming debut album from Vancouver's Felix Cartal, and hearing a track as heavy as this only pours gasoline on the fire. While it is merely a essential mix rip (big ups to Felix Da Housecat) this tune will wet your whistle for sure. Tracks like this remind me why I love electro.

After hearing a short clip of this punkish rework of the beetroots hit Warp 1.9, I couldn’t wait for the full version, in addition to the forthcoming release of the Romborama leftovers. Trust me, you’re going to want this track.
The Bloody Beetroots – Warp 1977

Bonus Track:
Project Bassline – Drop The Pressure (Jack Beats Remix)

IRON DJ / DWNLD MP3 / VOTE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!

Sorry for holding out on y’all for so long, enjoy these massive tunes.

In Case you Missed Coachella

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

image-1

I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the Sahara tent this past weekend, and why not with the whole Dim Mak crew in the house, along with acts like the chemical brothers, the crystal method, felix da housecat, switch, busy p, etienne de crecy & surkin (who I just peeped for a minute tonight at Vessel) As a big fan of the whole Dim Mak crew (KRFT, Beetroots, Cartal, Aoki) I payed special attention to their sets to determine if they were different from when I had last seen all of them (in the past two months) I happened upon this choice vid from the beetroots and aoki, which summed up the mood of the weekend. While our friends at Gotta Dance Dirty covered JFK & Al’s major drops, I figure I would drop a new track from the beetroots set that straight up sounds like a Bob Rifo production. Not much is known about this artist, but it is very obvious that his sound is similar. This is a relentless track that should take a good spot in your sets, coming to you in 320kpbs.

Gigi Barocco- Puah

Bonus Track: John Dahlback- Pyramid (Dirty South Remix)

Cheers,
Craw!

P.S. give me a shout on twitter, along with IDJ & Senor Max Kaplan. Also, House legend Felix Da Housecat is now broadcasting his sets live on the inet @ http://www.justin.tv/felixdahousecat check it out.

Happy belated birthday to Busy P, I saw some vid of his party last night at Cinespace, and Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter came out and did a very rare “set” without a mask. Sounds like a hell of a night.

Craw’s EXCLUSIVE IRON DJ interview with DJ Troy Kurtz!

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
2638_604641137257_10620177_37802563_4083216_n
In my first installment of Craw’s exclusive interviews, I profile IRON DJ friend DJ Troy Kurtz of Miami FL. A former resident DJ at Heathrow and more currently at Bella Rose, Troy has DJ’ed with the likes of Devlin & Darko, Steve Aoki, The Bloody Beetroots & Alan Braxe.
What made you decide to start DJing clubs in the first place?

Miami is an interesting place for nightlife… you have the guidos, the latinos, the locals, the tweens, the UM kids, the models, the hipsters & the rappers. But every single club was/is just way too much regaeton, too much top 40, and too much “world hold on”. Straight nonsense and a lot of people were just over the whole scene. I thought to myself, stop whining about it and do something.

Who would you consider a big influence in your style/set selection/equipment choice?

I owe pretty much everything to my buddy out in LA named Trevor, aka BONES. He showed me the ropes last summer and got me super inspired to get started when I got back to Florida. If it wasn’t for him, I’d probably never be DJing right now.

Author’s note: BONES, aka Trevor Moffit, is also a friend of IDJ and can be found over at Gotta Dance Dirty

Traktor/Serato/Abelton- what works for you & why?

Traktor. Read above.

Where was your first gig, and what was it like?

My first gig was at Heathrow, which is a relatively new club on South Beach (I later ended up being a resident there for a few months) I had been pumping it up the whole week before the gig to all of my friends, so of course they all came. But when I got there I didn’t have the right cables to hook-up and I felt like an idiot. Amateur hour to the max.

What was your initial setup, and looking back, what did it lack?

Mac Powerbook G4 and an old version of Traktor. It lacked some serious hard drive space. Bitch was so slow.

What is your current setup?

MacBook Pro, DJM 800, Numark DJ IO soundcard, Traktor

Favorite DJ (s) out right now:

Bloody Beetroots, AC Slater, Diplo, Designer Drugs

Favorite track so far this year?

Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Remix)

Favorite producer 2008/09
Diplo

Favorite remixer (if different from producer)

AC Slater

How was this years WMC now that you have steady gigs?

WMC was looney tunes. It’s really fun because I’m so new and I’m soaking it all in, meeting DJ’s I really look up to and listen to every day. It also helped that I had crazy access to some pretty special shows. The last night of WMC (Sunday) Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki played a secret show at Bella Rose, which is the smallest/yet most legit joint on South Beach. It was the epitome of rad.

What do you think is your best memory of any of your gigs?

Just two months ago I became resident at Bella Rose and the first few Saturday nights were slllaammmmeeedddd (capacity of the club is like 200 and we pretty much doubled it). I’d play from open at 11pm straight through to close at 4am, so I practically played every track on my computer. Everything from disco to dubsteb. But at like 3-3:30 I would just start dropping the noisiest bangers and everyone inside was losing it, just ripping the paint off the walls. Epic stuff.

Any tips/tricks for aspiring dj’s out there?

Believe in your music, don’t drop bangers before people get drunk, and never burn bridges. Its a small, small industry and there’re a lot more DJs who are way better than you.
