These guys are just dope. Rhythmically driven house that dabbles on the prog side. BSOD consists of Deadmau5 and notable studio musician Steve Duda. I first heard of their stuff in a BBC radio 1 Essential Mix, and was blown away. Milton is a great heavy track that at 128 BPMs can be mixed well with most hard electro tracks. Last life has a much more Adam K & Soha type feel to it, which is never a bad thing.
It seems like I have waited forever for the chance to see Deadmau5, and it was worth every penny. While his set only lasted 90 minutes, it was full of energy and a capacity crowd was going absolutely nuts. Highlights included a fast paced take on “Sometimes Things Get Whatever,” “The Reward is Cheese,” and crowd favorite Arguru. However nothing compared to the reaction he got from his new single, I Remember feat. Kaskade (+ Haley Gibby) Everyone in the building was going nuts, and Ms. Gibby’s voice seemed to memorize the crowd, though that is common at these types of events. This is one show that I will never forget. Look out for more pictures in the coming days, as well as recaps of sets by The Toxic Avenger, Felix Cartal, Sander Van Doorn, Ferry Corsten & the legendary Paul Van Dyk, who’s two hour closing set really killed it. Here is some ear candy in the meantime, from the Mau5′s set as well as others..
The long anticipated 12th annual ETD Pop! festival is upon us this Saturday and epic times are certain to be had. In fact, something epic has already taken place, as three people attempted to rob me in front of the 24th/Mission BART station immediately after I purchased my ticket. Taking it in stride I came away with with my ticket and all of my possessions, so I now turn my attention to the event. What a lineup.
First I have to highlight the headliner, Paul Van Dyk. A legend in the game, I personally find some of his tunes to be too slow, yet nonetheless enjoyable. Here is a remix of his updated version of the classic PVD single, “For an Angel” BrokenFixie – Paul Van Dyk- For an Angel 2009 (spencer & hill radio edit)
Next comes the Canadian superstar, Deadmau5. After a meteoric rise in the electronic/dance genre, including headlining gigs at most major music festivals, a Grammy nomination and a beatport award, the Mau5 has established himself in the elite. Here is an upbeat cut from one of his earlier albums. BrokenFixie – Deadmau5- Dr Funkenstein
On top of these major acts, two of my favorite electro producers, Felix Cartal & LA Riots are slated to perform. Expect relentless and powerful sets from both! BrokenFixie – Felix Cartal- Montreal Dreams
I just picked up a copy of Deadmau5′s (A.K.A Joel Zimmerman) Xfer, a quality CDROM of loops, drums, efx, etc that can plug into most production software (FL Studio, Live, Reason, Pro Tools) I have been playing around with it for the last few hours, and I have to say it is remarkable. Not only do you get a extensive set of quality drum kicks, claps & hits, but over 300 royalty free drum loops, which makes life alot easier for those who are new to the process of producing electronic music. My favorite part about it is the inclusion of REAL vintage synth sounds. The Moog sounds great. At USD $99 it is QUITE a steal, and if you are trying to show the world what you can do, this is a great building block in anyones musical arsenal.
Xfer can be picked up here, along with other cool stuff from the MAU5
CRAW
Here are a few drops to enjoy. While they are not Xfer related, I figured all of you would enjoy some quality material for your sets.

As we begin to ease into summer and the festival season, I decided to bring you some tracks that will have people going crazy for a long time. The first two involve MSTRKRFT’s JFK, who is well known for re editing some of the heaviest records out there, and these two are no exception. First we have Bird Peterson’s remix of it aint love, the first track on KRFT’s Fist of God LP. When I saw them last month I was completely floored by this remix, which drops as hard as Mr. Miyagi’s remix of Rackhunters.
So sit back, grab a glass of crown royal, relax, and prepare for the party season. If your in SF this week I suggest you head over to WISH on wed night for THE THREAD before moving on to Jokers Of The Scene @ Vessel. Also on the horizon is the ETD Pop festival in Daly City (Cow Palace), which will certainly be a crowd pleaser. Get your tickets early!
Cheers,
Craw!
